National Security Strategy of Armenia is a good base for realizing IPAPJune 20, 2007 - 19:17 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - NATO wants to continue the cooperation with Armenia in the issue of realizing reforms in defense sphere, which are supposed by Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), NATO Secretary General's Special Representative in South Caucasus Robert Simmons stated to a press conference in Yerevan. He said, the National Security Strategy of Armenia is a good base for it. "The cooperation with Armenia in the issue of reforming the defense structure of the country is one of the four key points of IPAP. We are going to assist Armenia in working out and implementation of strategic defense doctrine. We will also assist the country in realization of manpower policy of the Ministry of Defense, including civilian personnel, as well as formation of the defense budget. NATO also will continue the political cooperation. We underlined the successful conduction of the May 12 parliamentarian elections in Armenia with satisfaction, and we expect that during the next elections in the country again we will fix progress," the Sec. Gen.'s Special Representative underscored. According to R. Simmons with NATO's assistance a Crisis Center is established in Yerevan, which will help to provide security for civilian population during emergency situations. "The institutional aspect of IPAP program is also very important, in the framework of which creation of an inter-departmental structure is planned," Robert Simmons said.
