Anoush Ohanian, who is for a long time treating patients suffering from the Mediterranean fever, said this is a rare genetic pathology, which is often found mainly with the nations, ancestors of which used to settle the Mediterranean basin. Most of all Armenians, Jews, Arabs suffer from the Periodic Disease irrespective of the place where they live. As a rule, the disease begins in childhood or youth, at that the frequency rate reaches 1/10. "As you know, currently the modern medicine offers patents to take colchicine, which warns about fits and reduces their frequency, and its lengthy use decreases the risk of amyloidosis. At that, colchicine is being prescribed for lifelong use.
