Ruling RPA stands best chance to win Yerevan Mayor election

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Republican Part of Armenia (RPA) has best chances for victory, though both coalitional partners and the opposition could achieve some success in election campaigns for Council of Deans and Yerevan Mayor. ''We have every reason to believe RPA and its candidates will be a success - both public opinion polls and the trust RPA enjoys in Yerevan testify to it, '' the Party Press Secretary, Member of RA National Council Eduard Sharmazanov stated.



RPA expects an "honest and civilized political competition " from Heritage , ANC as well as other opposition parties. Should there be unification of Heritage Party with the Armenian National Congress, The RPA will have to fight with the united block, if no - the struggle will be waged between separate parties.



Yerevan Council of Deans elections are due on May. 31.



The council comprises 65 members, one of which will be nominated for the position of Yerevan Mayor. Should one of the parties win more than 50% of electoral vote, the person heading the candidate's list of the indicated party automatically becomes the Mayor. At present Gagik Beglayran holds the position of Yerevan Mayor, to which he was appointed on Mar 4 by presidential decree. He tops the list of Republican Party candidates for Council of Deans elections. Prosperous Armenia's candidates list headed by RA Minister of Health Arthur Kushkyan.
