Alexander Iskandaryan: Kosovo’s independence recognized neither by UN, nor Hague courtAugust 3, 2010 - 14:36 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Commenting on the ICJ ruling on Kosovo, Director of the Caucasus Institute, political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan said that Kosovo’s independence has been recognized neither by the UN, nor the Hague court. The court only ruled that international law does not forbid peoples to declare independence, Iskandaryan told a press conference in Yerevan. “The issue of Kosovo’s independence was solved by the U.S. already in 1999 but not the Hague court in 2010,” said Iskandaryan, adding that there are similarities between the Karabakh and Kosovo problems. However, in case of Artsakh, nobody assisted the Karabakh people in winning the war and creating its state. Commenting on Russia’s supply of two battalions of S-300 PMU2 air defense missile systems to Azerbaijan and prolongation of the term of Russian military base’s presence on Armenia’s territory for 49 years, Alexander Iskandaryan noted that in its regional policy Moscow cannot cooperate with Azerbaijan and disregard Armenia’s factor and vice versa. Besides, according to the political analyst, relations with the two states make a component part of the regional balance, which is supported by Russia.
