Armenian MP: sale of Armenia’s frontier lands to foreigners should be bannedMarch 29, 2011 - 17:56 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Member of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun parliamentary group Ruzan Arakelyan offered to toughen terms for Armenia’s land plots sale to foreigners. Arakelyan continues working on legislative amendments to the RA Land Code. She offers making amendments under which the sale of land plots to foreigners will be prohibited in Armenia’s frontier areas. “The countries, from where people arrive in Armenia to obtain land plots, basically prohibit the sale of frontier lands, for, example, Iran, Turkey, a range of European countries. Currently Armenia is very attractive not only for Europeans, but also for Iranians, including those of Azerbaijani origin, who happily purchase real estate and land plots in Armenia. The problem is that we have no idea of our lands importance and have not regulated this matter legislatively,” Arakelyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. Armenia’s borders and frontier areas are neglected from the safety perspective, she said. According to Arakelyan, the amendments offered by her are aimed at protecting frontier areas of Armenia, but not at hampering foreign investments. “We should think of our security today. We cannot afford granting lands to foreigners,” concluded Arakelyan. Under the Armenian Constitution, the sale of land plots is forbidden to foreigners but not to legal entities.
