Liturgy in Holy Cross Church is Turkey’s attempt to improve its image in Europe’s eyes

PanARMENIAN.Net - The RA Association of Expatriates’ Communities issued a statement on the upcoming liturgy in Holy Cross Church on Akhtamar island due September 19.

The statement specifically reads that at a first glance Turkey’s initiative can be characterized as a display of good will, but in reality Turkey wants to improve its image in the eyes of Europe and appear as a civilized and democratic country.

The statement also reads that through its initiatives Ankara wants to torpedo the process of the Armenian Genocide recognition by the U.S. Congress and unfreeze ratification of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols signed on October 10, 2009.

“Turkey wants to interfere in the Karabakh conflict settlement, as well as strengthen its positions in the Council of Europe,” the statement reads. “We urge Armenians in Diaspora and the Republic of Armenia not to participate in the liturgy and not to become a tool in someone else’s hands.”
