Problems of North Caucasus Armenians should be addressed

Correct policy can help Armenian Diaspora in the Caucasus.

The Armenian community of North Caucasus may face the same problems as Lebanese Armenians did during the civil war in 1974, when various groupings tried to use the Armenian population in their own interests. As result, the Armenian population of Lebanon reduced to 100 thousand.

PanARMENIAN.Net - The problems of Armenian communities of the North Caucasus were discussed during the 5th All Armenian Media Forum in Stepanakert, which brought together about 200 journalists from 26 countries on October 12-16, 2010.

Due to a number of regional factors, including relations with the local authorities and other ethnic communities as well as new migration flows, the problems of Armenians should be addressed to avoid tensions. Otherwise, the Armenian community of North Caucasus may face the same problems as Lebanese Armenians did during the civil war in 1974, when various groupings tried to use the Armenian population in their own interests. As result, the Armenian population of Lebanon reduced to 100 thousand.

Unfavorable development of the situation may grow into a disaster both for Diaspora and Armenia, which will have to host a huge flow of refugees.

The only way to avoid this is not to avoid involvement in ethnic conflicts. So, correct policy can help Armenian Diaspora in the Caucasus.
