If need be, Turkey can persuade HAMAS to recognize Israel

All the peoples of the world, survivors of genocide and massacres – the term itself playing no special role here – unite in their righteous struggle for recognition of the killings of their kith and kin. All, except the Jews.

The question of Israel’s recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire is becoming an international concern and the “blame” for this lies on the Jews who found nothing better than putting pressure on Turkey by threatening to recognize the Armenian Genocide. The threats, if anything, are ephemeral, but under certain circumstances may be realized too.

PanARMENIAN.Net - Today one of the major concerns of Israel is to prevent a second “Freedom Flotilla” into Gaza. Another, equally important, concern that can pose a real threat to Israel is reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas. And in this regard Jerusalem clearly has high hopes for Turkey, which in principle can persuade Hamas to recognize Israel, if she wants and needs it. Ankara has already realized the weakness of the Jewish state, and may push for her interests. But what will Turkey demand in exchange for a promise to “put in a kind word” to terrorists? Naturally, non-recognition of the Armenian Genocide or something else. Israeli officials, who oppose the resolution on the Armenian Genocide, offer arguments claiming that it would bring to deterioration of relations, collapse of trade ties and cooperation in the field of armaments. In fact, everything is much different: so far Turkey has deteriorated relations and reduced trade and economic cooperation with no country that has recognized the Armenian Genocide, as it is too high a price for the issue, which Turkey is struggling to present as an internal affair of the Ottoman Empire. By the way, Germany, too, could talk of the Holocaust as her internal affair, and the Jews would have found themselves in the same position with the Armenians, knocking at the doors of the powers to no purpose, writing letters to nowhere. That is, exactly where Talat Pasha deported the Armenian population of the empire – “to nowhere”. However, it came out differently. All the peoples of the world, survivors of genocide and massacres – the term itself playing no special role here – unite in their righteous struggle for recognition of the killings of their kith and kin. All, but not the Jews. Considering themselves a “nation chosen by God”, they refuse anyone in compassion, but require it for themselves.

All this looks quite dreadful. Authors of the resolution are members of the Knesset, and they will answer for the whole story that will add little respect for Israel, as the references to Turkey and, even more so, to Azerbaijan are ridiculous. Even if it should so happen that the Knesset pass the resolution, it will change absolutely nothing in Israel’s relations with the Muslim world or with Armenia.

Even the recent speech by President Obama about the 1967 borders, which he, metaphorically speaking, then took back, was able to change nothing: once again there was visually demonstrated the dependence of any candidate for the U.S. presidency upon the Jewish capital.

Under these circumstances Armenia is left with one option only – to interest all those states that might recognize the Armenian Genocide. But how to interest? The weak are not respected, they may be pitied, even sympathized, but no one will ever to do anything for their sake.
