Heikki Talvitie: EU Interested in Karabakh Conflict Settlement

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yesterday EU Special Envoy for the South Caucasus Heikki Talvitie held a meeting with the Azerbaijani opposition leaders in Baku. Isa Gambar, the Chairman of Musavat party, Ali Kerimli, the leader of National Front party, Sardar Jalaloglu, the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan and Lala Shovket, the head of the National Unity Movement attended the meeting. As Isa Gambar told journalists upon completion of the negotiations, the parties exchanged views on the EU-Azerbaijan relations and the ways of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. For his part Mr. Talvitie stated the European Union is interested in the resolution of the Karabakh problem. The meeting participants also referred to the parliamentary election and its outcomes. "Our position is usual and known to all. The EU rates the OSCE report as objective," Heikki Talvitie said. To note, the Karabakh settlement was as well discussed at the meeting of the EU Special Envoy with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. Later, during a news conference Mr. Talvitie stated that the technical consultations within the EU Neighborhood Policy will all of the three South Caucasian states will be launched in the near future. In closing Heikki Talvitie informed that his next visit to the region is planned for early 2006, reported Azeri media.
