Seyran Ohanyan: Modernization of NKR Defense Army to Be Continued in 2006

PanARMENIAN.Net - "In 2005 the command of the NKR Defense Army focused on improving the living conditions of the servicemen. A big number of quarters and other constructions were built, NKR Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said at a news conference January 18. In the Minister's words, dwellings for the families of the killed soldiers were built and measures for the improvement of the social and domestic conditions were undertaken. "750 million drams was allotted for the construction of dwellings and about 110 servicemen moved in new houses. 300 million drams was spent on constructing houses for the families of the killed soldiers. In 2006 the index raised. 1 billion 200 million drams was allocated for the construction of dwellings for the military and 600 million drams - for the families of the killed soldiers," the NKR MOD head said. He also informed that in 2005 the NKR Defense Army replenished the material and technical base with some kinds of armament and military equipment. In his words, the works for the modernization of the army will be continued in 2006.



He also informed that the border patrol was strengthened. The attempts of the enemy to promote positions aggravated tension in some defense regions and sometimes even provoked local hostilities. At that Seyran Ohanyan said that the NKR Defense Army "managed to maintain the security and balance thanks not to the amount of armament but to the military skills and spirit." The Minister stressed that last year most of military units received a high estimate of the chief military checkout, reported IA Regnum.
