CoE welcomes RA President's initiative to normalize relations with Turkey

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Council of Europe does welcome the initiative of President Serzh Sargsyan, who invited his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul to a qualifying football match, Mr Lluis Maria de Puig, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, said in a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

"I can't foresee the result of 'football diplomacy' but all steps that can originate a Turkish-Armenian dialog should be welcomed. I know that the two states experience problems but they can be overcome. Serzh Sargsyan's initiative was a manifestation of good will," he said.

The World Cup 2010 qualifying match is due in Yerevan on September 6.
