Karabakh participation needed for efficiency of talks

PanARMENIAN.Net - Adoption of the declaration by Presidents of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan testifies of Russia's intention to act as efficient intermediary in resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, NKR Foreign Minister said.

"This meeting can be described as attempt to clarify positions of Armenia and Azerbaijan. However, Karabakh's participation is needed for efficiency of talks," Georgy Petrossian said.

If Azerbaijan were interested in resolution of the conflict it would open talks with Nagorno Karabakh and give up attempts to mislead the international community, according to him.

"Freedom and independence of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic are the sources of NKR policy," Minister Petrosyan said.

During the November 2 meeting, the Presidents Dmitry Medvedev of Russia, Serzh Sargsyan of Armenia and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan pledged to intensify negotiations to end the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

The declaration envisages resolution of the conflict on the basis of principles and norms of the international law as well as agreements and documents concluded in this framework.

Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev also instructed their Foreign Ministers to activate the negotiation process, in collaboration with the co-chairs of the OSCE's Minsk Group.
