Robert Wexler: Turkey-Armenia dialogue can result in opening of borderFebruary 28, 2009 - 16:43 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The relations between Turkey and Armenia are at a historic turning point and the developments could result the opening of the border of two neighboring countries, a U.S. congressman said.Robert Wexler, co-chair of the Turkish friendship group in the U.S. House of Representatives, paid a visit to Turkey to hold a series of talks with high-level officials last week. Turkey severed diplomatic relations with Armenia and closed the border in 1993 to support Azerbaijan in the Nagorno Karabakh issue. A warmer period began when Turkish President Abdullah Gul paid a landmark visit to Yerevan in September 2008 to watch a World Cup qualifier between the Armenian and Turkish national teams on the invitation of RA President Serzh Sargsyan. The two countries have been holding contacts at the ministerial level since. ![]() ![]() Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
