BSEC young socialists pave way to big politics

PanARMENIAN.Net - BSEC member states' International Union of Young Socialists (IUSY) was founded with the purpose of ensuring and maintaining peace in the region and promoting cooperation among young people, Union Vice President and person-in-charge for Black Sea region Dmitry Tsikashvili (Georgia) told a PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent. According to him, the IUSY activities are aimed at promoting democracy in the region and involving youth in national and regional processes.

As mentioned by Tsikashvili, IUSY convenes its general meetings at least once per year. Meetings take place first within Black Sea region frameworks and then on international level. "Apart from conflicts, it is also necessary to pay attention to democratization processes. Conflicts do not contribute to Black Sea region development in terms of bilateral or multilateral ties. In that sense, youth can impart certain new impulses to our governments," IUSY Vice President mentioned, adding that democracy was deemed one of the principal factors ensuring positive outcomes in conflict settlement processes.

The Georgian representative also added that IUSY meetings are aimed at exchanging information over current processes in the region; they also have practical importance as they suggest concrete mechanisms for making people's voice heard by government's with the help of youth.

The next IUSY meeting is scheduled in Hungary, where young socialists will hold World Conference, the Union's Vice President said. "I hope the Black Sea region will be properly represented there, and regional issues will be discussed on international arena. We'll get information on the opinion of our partners from Europe, America, Africa and other non-member states," he said.

Tsikashvili finds young leaders' participation in IUSY meetings to be a good chance promoting their further career in "big politics". "It will be easier for them to make concrete decisions affecting our lives," he added.

IUSY Democracy and Cooperation Development conference is taking place in Yerevan from 24 till 27 May. Convened upon the initiative of ARFD-Dashnaktsutyun, the conference brought together young leaders from Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Sweden, Spain, Greece, Iran, Cyprus, Canada and Syria.
