Regional players won’t agree with offer to withdraw Armenian forces from 2 Karabakh regions

PanARMENIAN.Net -

Discussions on withdrawal of Armenian forces from 2 Karabakh-adjacent regions are noting new. Yet, to implement the offer, final settlement of conflict, covering Karbakh status, is necessary, Deputy CEO of Strategic Culture Foundation Andrei Areshev stated.

In a conversation with PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, Andrei Areshev commented on Azeri media-spread information as to Turkish Prime Minister’s advising Azerbaijan to agree to withdrawal of Armenian forces from Fizuli and Kelbajar.

“I believe the advice will not be considered, as fraught with cardinal changes in the alignment of forces. Besides, regional players will not agree with it either,” the expert said.

Dwelling on ratification of rapprochement Protocols, Andrei Areshev noted the ratification to be possible only in case Armenia agrees to one-sided concessions in Karabakh conflict settlement.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
