Armand de Decker: EU is disappointed with TurkeyJuly 13, 2010 - 12:17 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Belgian Senate President Armand de Decker said that setting of preconditions for the Armenian-Turkish normalization by Ankara has caused great disappointment of the European Union. During a meeting with RA National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, he noted that the Belgian parliament supports Armenia, what is proved by adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in 1998. For his part, Abrahamyan briefed on Armenia’s stance on the Karabakh conflict settlement and relations with its neighbors, the RA NA press service reported. “Armenia has repeatedly stated that the conflict should be resolved through peaceful negotiations. However, Azerbaijan hampers the process by threatening war, without getting an adequate condemnation by the international community,” he said. The meeting was followed by a joint press conference. Commenting on the Armenian-Turkish relations, Armand de Decker said: “I regret that the active diplomacy has not succeeded through the fault of Turkey, which has set preconditions with respect to the Karabakh conflict. We are disappointed with Ankara’s reluctance to advance in the Armenian-Turkish normalization.” Top stories Authorities said a total of 192 Azerbaijani troops were killed and 511 were wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive.
