Yerevan thanks Ashkhabad for neutrality in Karabakh issue

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, currently on a visit to Ashkhabad, thanked his counterpart Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov for neutrality and balanced position in Karabakh issue.

President Sargsyan once again emphasized Armenia’s stance, supporting peaceful settlement of conflict based on norms and principles of international law, RIA Novosti reported.

Armenian-Turkmen relations

Armenia and Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations in October 1992. The two countries have enjoyed friendly relations since then and in June 2008 the Presidents confirmed willingness to strengthen ties in all fields. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian paid an official visit to Turkmenistan in April 2009, when a protocol on cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs was signed. Armenia and Turkmenistan has so far concluded over 50 agreements. According to the Armenian National Statistical Service, the turnover between the two states totaled $17 312 900 in January-December 2009.
