Azerbaijan opposes to construction of Black Sea Ring Highway together with Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - If Armenia joints the project of Black Sea Ring Highway, Azerbaijan will withdraw its signature from the agreement on the highway construction, Haberturk portal reported.

The main route of the highway and connecting roads pass through the territories of Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania and Greece.

“However, Azerbaijan agreed to the highway construction with reservations. Baku does not want to have any contacts with Armenia. If Armenia joins this project, which may provoke indirect cooperation between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Baku will withdraw its signature from the agreement on the highway construction,” Haberturk reported.

The Memorandum of understanding for the coordinated development of Black Sea Ring Highway (over 7,000km-long) was signed in September 2006.

Azerbaijan, Albania, Armenia, Greece, Moldova and Serbia are planned to be involved in the project in addition to the six Black Sea countries.

The Memorandum shall remain in effect for an initial term of ten years and shall thereafter be automatically extended for consecutive five-year periods, unless terminated upon notice by the 2/3 of the Parties. Their objections must be expressed not less than one year prior to the expiration of the ten-year term.
