  ANCA: Shushi liberation major watershed in modern Armenian history  May 10, 2011 - 09:23 AMTPanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Americans join today with veterans of the Shushi liberation battle, said the Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA). “We join with the families of the brave souls who lost their lives in marking both a great turning point in Artsakh's struggle for self-determination and a major watershed in modern Armenian history,” Aram Hamparian told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. Shushi, the ancient capital of Arstakh, was liberated on May 9, 1992.   14 Artsakh. Liberated Lands                   The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
