ARMENIA AND IRAN ARE STRATEGIC ALLIES, ROBERT KOCHARIAN STATED

PanARMENIAN.Net - 24.01.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "The Iranian side assesses its relations with Armenia as strategic ones". Minister of Economy and Finance of Iran, the co-chairman of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental coordination commission Hussein Namazi said at the meeting with the president of Armenia Robert Kocharian, Mediamax was informed in the press office of the president of the country.

President Kocharian voiced his opinion that Armenia and Iran are strategic partners. Armenian president said he hoped that during the meeting of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental coordination commission, held today in Yerevan, "many old unresolved issues will find a solution". Robert Kocharian noted with satisfaction that the Armenian-Iranian relations have significantly activated lately.

"Bilateral cooperation in various spheres may promote the strengthening of regional and international positions of our countries", Armenian President stressed.

Touching upon the activity of the bilateral intergovernmental coordination commission, Robert Kocharian noted the necessity of full realization of all the taken decisions. "There should be no unfulfilled obligations, all the agreements must be realized properly and in time", President Kocharian said.

Questions related to the construction of Iran-Armenia pipeline, possibilities of expansion of bilateral trade-economic relations were also discussed during the meeting. It was noted that the tariff policy will be reviewed, which will give a possibility for a fuller presentation of Armenian goods in the Iranian market. -0-
