  U.S. Department of State hails amnesty in Armenia May 28, 2011 - 13:24 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The United States welcomed the prisoner amnesty granted by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and declared by the Armenian parliament. “The United States is pleased to see the quick release of those detained in connection with the events of March 1, 2008,” reads a statement by Deputy Spokesman Mark C. Toner on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. “The United States is committed to supporting the government of Armenia in taking steps to strengthen due process, ensure freedom of assembly and expression, and enable Armenia to become an open, democratic, and prosperous society.”   Top stories Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert.
