Berlusconi trial resumes

PanARMENIAN.Net - Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's trial on charges that he paid for sex with an underage Moroccan teenager then used his office to try to cover it up has resumed in a Milan courtroom after a two-month break.

The May 31 court session comes a day after the Italian leader suffered a setback in local elections when candidates he supported lost in major cities such as Milan and Naples.

Berlusconi's lawyers are expected to submit motions challenging the Milan court's jurisdiction in the prostitution trial. The same motions were rejected when a judge ordered an immediate trial and skipped a preliminary hearing, citing what he called a preponderance of evidence, AP reported.

Berlusconi is in Romania on a two-day official visit and not attending the court session.
