Tigran Sargsyan: we see Armenia’s future as society and economy based on knowledge

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said that the government has defined several directions for investments.

“And we see the country’s future as a society and economy based on knowledge,” Sargsyan said in an interview with Russian RBC daily.

According to him, the country may develop, for example, metal-intensive productions, thus the government places stake on intellectual work, which does not require huge transactional costs.

“The fields related to it, specifically the IT field, are top priorities for us. Despite serious economic decline in 2009, 17% growth was recorded in the sector. Over 200 companies with foreign capital operate in the country and they closely cooperate with universities and departments educating specialists in the field,” said Sargsyan.

At the same time, Sargsyan labeled the primary resources as the second priority direction for investments.

He said that favorable conditions have been created in the world, due to which investments went to the mining sector.

“According to forecasts, demand for copper, molybdenum and gold will allow obtaining profits, thus, the investments will be repaid,” he said.

Mr. Sargsyan also noted that Russian investments in Armenia’s economy make 30-50%, according to different estimates.
