Eduard Hovhannisyan: car insurance absence fine too severe in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Imposition of AMD 5000 fine for the absence of compulsory car insurance every 10 days should be postponed, according to the chairman of the center for drivers’ rights protection.

“Another drawback is the AMD 50 000 penalty the car owner will have to pay for the absence of insurance if stopped by road police,” Eduard Hovhannisyan said. “The amount of the fines is tremendous for Armenia,” he added.

“The number of traffic accidents over the two weeks of January 2011 exceeded the figure fixed during the same period in 2010. At that, if the owners of the cars damaged during the accident agree to settle the problem themselves, police officers demand a pay, what is inadmissible,” he said.
