Turkish boxing referee found dead in London

PanARMENIAN.Net - A federation official says a Turkish boxing referee was found dead in his London hotel room.

Turkish Boxing Federation chief Bayram Altug says a colleague found 73-year-old Garip Erkuyumcu dead in his bed on Thursday, July 26.

A heart attack is suspected but that autopsy results, expected later on Friday, would determine the exact cause of death.

Altug on Friday says Erkuyumcu was a member of the International Boxing Association's refereeing and judging commission and would have been assisting boxing referees at the Olympic Games.

Erkuyumcu's body would be flown back to Turkey next week, the Associated Press reported.
