Spartak turns down offers for top scorer Movsisyan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Spartak Moscow have turned down offers for their top scorer Yura Movsisyan amid interest from English and German clubs, R-Sport reported, citing the striker’s agent Patrick McCabe.

The Armenian-American forward, 26, has scored 12 goals this campaign for Spartak and is on track to secure Russian Premier League top scorer honors for the second season running.

“There have been offers but none have met the club’s valuation,” McCabe said. “More specifically, Yura is a key player for Spartak and the club is not actively looking to sell him. We shall see what happens in the rest of the window.”

English and German clubs have had Movsisyan “under close watch” over “several months,” McCabe said, without naming the clubs involved.

Movsisyan has not played since undergoing a knee operation in late November, the result of an injury sustained in a game when he scored a hat-trick against league leaders Zenit St. Petersburg. With the RPL on its winter break, Spartak are third, one point off Zenit.

The California-raised Movsisyan started his career in the United States with the Kansas City Wizards and Real Salt Lake, winning the Major League Soccer title in 2009. He spent a spell in the Danish league before joining Russia in 2011 with FC Krasnodar, then moving on to Spartak in December 2012.

He has scored nine international goals in 25 games for Armenia.
