Kars-Tbilisi-Baku Railway Construction to Be Launched in Spring 2007December 4, 2006 - 13:26 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway project is supposed for implementation in spring 2007, Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli told reporters. "We form working groups under the rule of Azerbaijani Minister of Transport and Georgian Minister of Economic Development in order to promote the preparation process. The final agreement on the terms and amount of the credit will be achieved upon completion of the talks," he said.Noghaideli informed that till first quarter of 2007 the talks will be over and the sides will sign a corresponding intergovernmental agreement. The reconstruction of one railway branch will be launched next spring, construction the other branch will be started by the end of 2007. The project costs $420 million. $220 million will be spent on works in the Georgian sector, reports Day.az. Armenia stands against the railway building and rates the project as economically inexpedient, since the construction is carried out in contrast to the existing Kars-Gyumri-Tbilisi-Baku railway. Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
