Azerbaijani police arrest activist amid mounting crackdown![]() May 27, 2016 - 14:35 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The police of Azerbaijan’s Narimanov rayon arrested Anar Abdullayev, an activist from the Nida Civic Movement, commonly referred to as N!DA, lawyer Nicat Memmedbeyli said in a Fecebook post. Lawyer Shahla Humbatova failed to give further details about the activist’s detention. The reason behind his arrest is unknown. Nida Civic Movement currently has over 350 members comprising mainly young individuals and well-known politicians and activists. The movement claims to have no affiliation with any of the political parties in the country. Nida means exclamation in Azerbaijani. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
