Armenia, Ukraine to appeal against Rio improper refereeing: media

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian and Ukrainian Federations of Greco-Roman wrestling are preparing a letter of complaint after the inadequate refereeing during the Olympics finals, Ukrainian wrestler Jean Belenyuk who recently won bronze in the Rio Games said.

“Our Federation is currently readying a letter of complaint on the improper judging, together with the representatives of Armenia,” he said.

“The Serbian athlete [Davor Štefanek] was granted Olympic championship in the fight against the Armenian [Migran Arutyunyan]. The president of the International Wrestling Federation is Serbian. Absolutely inadequate decisions have been made.”

Arutyunyan lost the bout to Štefanek in the wrestling finals due to poor refereeing.

Several hours later, however, another wrestler from Team Armenia, Artur Aleksanyan won gold, the first one for the country in the 2016 summer games.
