Tata Steel Chess: Armenia's Aronian beats tournament leader Eljanov

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's Levon Aronian made his presence felt at the Tata Steel Masters chess tournament by defeating overnight leader Pavel Eljanov of Ukraine in the fifth round on Thursday, January 19.

Prior to the victory, Aronian played four consecutive draws at the tournament in a small town called Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Magnus Carlsen (Norway) drew against former second Ian Nepomniachtchi (Russia), while Wesley So (the United States) scored a fantastic victory over Pentala Harikrishna (India) to take the sole lead.

Also, Sergey Karjakin (Russia) fell to Baskaran Adhiban of India.
