Armenia's Artur Aleksanyan shines at World Wrestling Championships

PanARMENIAN.Net - 2016 Olympic champion and two-time World champion Artur Aleksanyan of Armenia has reached the quarter finals of the World Wrestling Championships, currently underway in Paris, France.

After a victorious qualification round match, the Greco-Roman wrestler first beat Iran's athlete and then defeated G'Angelo Hancock of the United States.

Aleksanyan is an Olympic Champion (2016) and bronze medalist (2012), a two-time World Champion (2014, 2015), and a three-time European Champion (2012, 2013, 2014). Aleksanyan is the second Olympic gold medalist of Armenia since regaining independence in 1991 and is the most decorated Olympian of independent Armenia as well. He has been nicknamed the "White Bear" and is one of the most renowned Armenian athletes of the 21st century.

The final bout of the tournament will be held on Monday, August 21.

Also, Armenia's Karapet Chalyan has made it to the quarter-finals after beating Cuban and German athletes.
