Azerbaijani army trying to advance in Armenia's south

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Azerbaijani military attempted to carry out "certain works" near the border with the southern Armenian province of Syunik under the guise of "border demarcation" on Wednesday, May 12, the Armenian Defense Ministry reports.

The Armenian side took measures to have the Azerbaijani troops stop their activity, the Ministry said, adding that negotiations are currently underway.

The Defense Ministry also denied media reports that "clashes" have happened near the village of Ishkhanasar, Syunik, urging against disseminating unverified information and spreading panic among the public.

Irina Yolyan, the Deputy Mayor of the town of Goris in Syunik, said, however, that hundreds of Azerbaijanis have crossed the state border and advanced three kilometers towards the settlement of Verishen.
