56 Armenian athletes to compete at inaugural CIS Games

PanARMENIAN.Net - 56 Armenian athletes competing in 11 sports will travel to Kazan, Russia to participate in the inaugural edition of the Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States, according to a press release from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.

Minister Vahram Dumanyan on Monday, August 30 hosted the athletes and their coaches and wished them success ahead of the games slated for September 4-11. "I want you to be able to give positive emotions to our nation, which we need a lot today," he said.

Deputy Minister Karen Giloyan too was participating in the meeting. According to him, Armenia will be represented at the CIS games with a rather respectable delegation. Giloyan promised that the Armenian squad will return with medals.

Armenia earlier competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Representing the nation in its seventh consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics in the post-Soviet era, Armenian athletes secured two silver and two bronze medals.
