  Arman Avanesyan eyes Athlete of the Year title January 8, 2026 - 18:36 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - European sambo champion Arman Avanesyan has been included among the nominees for the 2025 World Games Athlete of the Year award, according to the International World Games Association (IWGA). In 2025, Avanesyan won gold at the World Games held in China and secured third place at the World Championship, Factor.am reports. “I won the European Championship, the World Games… and most importantly, my son was born. It was truly a year of victories,” Avanesyan told the International Sambo Federation’s press service. He is the only sambo athlete among the 30 nominees for this prestigious annual award.
