Champions of World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad return to Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s youth team, which recently won the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad, returned to Armenia on December 6.

Numerous fans, Vice President of Armenia’s Chess Federation Smbat Lputyan, as well as famous grandmasters met the young chess players at Zvartnots airport.

Chief Coach of the Armenian youth team Arsen Yeghiazaryan said they did not expect such a result. “From the very beginning of the Olympiad, our chess players were stable and remained undefeated for 9 consecutive rounds. Besides, three of them won individual gold,” said Yeghiazaryan.

Member of the team Tigran Petrosian said it is a great honor for him to win the Olympiad.

Karen Grigoryan, who won also individual gold, said: “After our victory over India and Russia we believed in our strength and managed to win.”
