Competition and state aid problems discussed in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - The State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) jointly with specialists of Twinning project organized a round table in Yerevan on Strengthening the Enforcement of Competition and State Aid Legislation in Armenia.

“The discussion is designed to cover the following topics: abuse of dominant position and anti-competitive agreements as well as state aid issues on the example of EU countries,” head of SCPEC international cooperation department Karine Poladyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

“The main goal of the Twinning project is to make Armenian legislation in the field of competition and state aid meeting European standards, to enhance SCPEC institutional capacities, to raise public awareness in the competition and state aid field,” she said.

According to her, the round table envisages both theoretical and practical discussions, in particular, the SCPEC case with regard to Mokonat LLC, on the fact of violations at coffee market, will be considered. Poladyan also said that besides today’s round table with representatives of state bodies and media, it is planned to conduct similar discussions to involve businessmen, NGO members and judges.

Twinning target project was launched by Armenia’s State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) jointly with antimonopoly agencies of Germany and Lithuania. The project envisions exchange of experience and development of cooperation on specific issues between the countries’ governments. The ultimate goal of the project is to improve competition environment in the Republic of Armenia. The project is accounted for the years 2011-2013.
