Darchinyan beats Mbamba in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Vic “The Raging Bull” Darchinyan (37-3-1, 27 KOs) has retained his IBO title with a 119:107, 120:107, 120:107 score in an impressive fight against Evans Mbamba (18-2, 9 KOs) of South Africa that took place in Yerevan’s Karen Demirchyan Sports Complex on September 3 night.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and head of the National Olympic Committee Gagik Tsarukyan were among those who came to see the bout dominated by Darchinyan in all of 12 rounds.

Darchinyan dedicated his victory to the 20th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh. He gifted his IBO belt to President Sargsyan and the award for his best knockout in 2008 to Tsarukyan.

After the bout, he thanked his funs for ultimate support and voiced hope to have new fights in Armenia. “It was a powerful fight. I wanted to knock him out but hurried and failed to reach the best result,” the boxer said.

In the other events, Armenian boxers Hovhannes Zhamkochyan, Azat Hovhannisyan and Gabriel Tolmajyan also celebrated victories.
