According to Davutoğlu, adoption of the bill is of no fundamental nature. “Will all of the 5 thousand, 10 thousand, 50 thousand Turkish protesters appear in jail? Adoption of the bill bears no humane nature. It is nothing but a political benefit and a complex due to Turkey’s becoming a rising power,” Turkish FM said, addressing President of France Nicolas Sarkozy. France-Turkey ties deteriorated after Dec. 22 adoption of the bill penalizing Armenian Genocide denial by the French National Assembly. The draft law envisages a year in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros for those who publicly deny the Armenian Genocide in France. Following the passage of the bill, Ankara recalled its ambassador from France.
