Stepan Safaryan: Hague court verdict legitimates NKR independence

PanARMENIAN.Net - The head of Heritage parliamentary group Stepan Safaryan characterized ICJ ruling- related discussions in Armenia as contradictory; some maintaining Kosovo issue to have a power of precedent, while others stated the opposite.

“The important thing is that Hague court regarded declaration of Kosovo independence to be legitimate, thus confirming that the principle of people’s right to self determination does not run counter to international law,” Stepan Safaryan told a news conference in Yerevan.

“ICJ ruling on Kosovo independence is a turning point in interpretation and implementation of international law,” Safaryan added.

As he pointed out, Hague court ruling arouse Azeri society’s concern. “Despite local authorities’ statements to the contrary, Azeries realize the fact that Hague court verdict legitimates NKR independence, thus putting NKR out of their reach,” he emphasized.
