Monte Melkonian’s life is a motivation for generations to come

PanARMENIAN.Net - On June 23, 2010, Markar Melkonian, Ph.D. degree in philosophy and currently a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at California’s State University, Northridge was invited to the Armenian College, Kolkata by Very Rev. Fr. Khoren Hovhannisyan, Pastor of Armenians in India and Manager of Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy.

A book reading was organized on Markar Melkonian’s most recent book, a memoir-biography entitled ‘My Brother’s Road’, at the Armenian College auditorium. The author read out short passages from his book. His readings recount the unbelievable saga of the life and death of his brother Monte Melkonian, a national hero of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh. It was followed by an interactive session with the students and teachers of the college. They queried about the book and Avo. Thereafter, the students recited poems dedicated to ‘Armenia’s most fearsome fighter’.

At the end of the program Father Khoren expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Markar Melkonian and quoted Napoleon Bonaparte saying that love for one’s motherland is the primary virtue of a civilized man. “…Monte Melkonian was endowed with the same virtue–‘Patriotism’. His sacrifice for Armenia became an inspiration for the nation to fight for freedom. Monte’s life is and will be a motivation for the generations to come”, concluded Father Hovhannisyan.
