International handball tournament kicks off in VanadzorSeptember 2, 2010 - 17:30 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On September 2, Armenian Prime Minister’s Cup kicked off in Vanadzor. During the international tournament’s opening ceremony, Governor of Armenia’s Lori region Aram Kocharyan greeted the guests and sportsmen, wishing them an interesting competition. “We are glad that Vanadzor is hosting such a tournament. It is a great honor for us and we want these three days to become a holiday for all fans of handball,” said Kocharyan. Meanwhile, President of Armenia’s Handball Federation Sargis Grigoryan believes that the tournament will promote handball development in Armenia. The tournament will bring together sportsmen from Armenia, Iran, Georgia and Belarus. Chief Coach of the Belarusian team Yuri Shevtsov thanked the tournament organizers for invitation, expressing hope that the sportsmen will manage to display their best abilities. Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Andrew Bynum are among those named as 2012 NBA All-Star Game starters. In Moscow Open’s Student Grandmaster Cup round 7, Armenian grandmaster will face Turkey’s Mustafa Yilmaz. England’s Nigel Short gained the Tradewise tournament gold, having scored a tie-break win over China’s Hou Yifan. Armenia goalkeeper was a Dynamo Moscow keeper from 2002 to 2005, playing 88 matches in Russian championships. |
