RA Weightlifting Federation pleased with results at World Youth Championships

PanARMENIAN.Net - President of the Armenian Weightlifting Federation Samvel Khachatryan said the federation is pleased with Armenian sportsmen’s results at the World Youth Championships held in Lima, Peru on May 10-15.

“At the tournament, Gor Minasyan, Mher Mikaelyan (85kg) and Adranik Karapetyan (69kg) won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. Besides, Razmik Ortetsyan (69kg) won bronze in the snatch,” Khachatryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

According to Khachatryan, Armenian weightlifters will participate in other international tournaments in 2011 as well. Specifically, Malaysia will host the World Junior Championships on June 30-July 7, and Armenia is expected to be represented by 2-3 weightlifters there.

“Shenzhen (China) will host the World University Championships on August 12-22. Armenia’s 5-6 weightlifters will participate in it. European Youth Championships will be held in Poland on August 21-28. In addition, Armenia will be represented in all weight categories at the European U23 Weightlifting Championships due September 16-23,” said Khachatryan.

Currently, Armenia’s men team hold trainings in Tsaghkadzor, while women’s team – in Abovian to get prepared for the World Championships due in November in Paris.
