Azerbaijan frustrates recognition of Kosovo by OICMay 25, 2009 - 12:00 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan has blocked the draft bill on recognition of Kosovo at the 36th session of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).Arab press says Azerbaijan has also opposed accession of Kosovo to the International Monetary Fund. Serbia welcomed this position, 1news.az reported. Kosovo has been recognized by 60 countries, including 57 OIC members. The current draft was introduced by Saudi Arabia, the second state after UAE, which recognized independence of Kosovo. Serbian authorities fear that Saudi Arabia may provoke a new wave of Kosovo's recognition by the Arab community. Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Authorities said a total of 192 Azerbaijani troops were killed and 511 were wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive. Partner news |
