Charles Aznavour outraged by President Sarkozy

PanARMENIAN.Net - In an interview with Dauphine Libere French daily newspaper, famous singer and Armenia’s ambassador to Switzerland Charles Aznavour expressed his deep concern over the Armenian issue.

Mr. Aznavour was outraged by the WikiLeaks revelations in which the Armenians of France learned that president Nicolas Sarkozy, one month after having promised to the CCAF (Co-ordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France) to support the law penalizing denial of Armenian Genocide, retracted on May 27, 2007, after his election as President, promising Ankara that the bill will be buried in the Senate.

“The President was wrong. Armenian people shed their blood for his country. This is the first time that I say it, but if the president does not change his position, I will never stop repeating it. There are at least 400,000 or 500,000 Armenians in France. Any French of Armenian origin will follow me, I know. I'm not a politician, but I have a very important political power. I know I risk my life by saying that. But at my age, do I really risk much?”

On January 23, in Paris, Charles Aznavour was rewarded with Prix Scopus 2011, bestowed by the University of Jerusalem, freelance French journalist Jean Eckian told PanARMENIAN.Net
