Zurab Noghaideli: Kosovo and Abkhazia problems are not connected with each other

PanARMENIAN.Net - Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli does not see any connection between ways of searching solutions to the Kosovo and Abkhazia problems, he stated to journalist in UN headquarters, New York, after the end of Security Council's close session. At the session he introduced his government's approach to the solution of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict.

"We stated the Security Council our view. Our main principle is peaceful solution to the conflict taking into account Georgia's territorial integrity," Zurab Noghaideli stated. Answering journalists, the Georgian representative said he has acquainted with the resolution of the Security Council on Georgia and his country's delegation continues working on the document via his friends in the Security Council.

The UN Security Council held a close official session on Georgia April 10. Members of the council discussed UN Secretary General's report on the situation in Abkhazia and Georgia. Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli and Sec, Gen.'s Special Representative Jean Arno participated in the session.

The main point in the session was discussions around fulfillment by the conflicting parties Security Council's 1716 Resolution. The resolution calls on Abkhazia to return the negotiation table and Tbilisi - "to refrain from militant rhetoric and provocative actions". The Security Council is going to adopt a new resolution on Abkhazia and Georgia in near future, in order to prolong the mandate of UN Mission in Georgia by UN Sec. Gen.'s recommendation. Its current authority expires April 15, UN Press Office reports.
