Last special train conveyed Russian military from Georgia to Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The servicemen of the 12th Russian base withdrawn from Batumi arrived in Armenia at 6 a.m.



The Russian Defense Ministry's press office said after a customs check, the passenger carriages that conveyed some 150 servicemen and their families were separated and annexed to a train heading for Gyumri.



The last Russian special train left Batumi at night. However, the Georgian authorities did not let it out without furnishing any explanation. The train was kept at Sadakhlo station for over five hours.



According to the agreement, Russia was expected to withdraw troops during 2008. However, the operation was accomplished a year ahead of the schedule. Peacekeepers performing their mission within CIS mandate jointly with the Georgian forces in South Ossetia were not withdrawn.
