Turkey demolishes orthodox monuments in CyprusApril 23, 2008 - 15:55 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Cypriot Orthodox Church decided to bring a legal action to the European Court of Human Rights against Turkey over demolition of historical and cultural heritage in Northern Cyprus, occupied by Turks. "The decision is final. Lawyers of the Church are ready to institute the case. Presently, we register the Church property in the land cadastre," said Chryzostom II, the Archbishop of Patriarchia.ru reports. Some 550 churches have been desecrated since Turkish invasion in 1974. Some 15-20 thousand of icons have been stolen and presumably sold.
