"France recognizes publicly the Armenian Genocide of 1915," says the bill signed by Laurent Fabius, President of French National Assembly. On November 7, 2000 a similar bill was passed by the French Senate. On October 12, 2006 the lower house of the French parliament adopted a bill penalizing the Armenian Genocide denial. The document envisages a year in prison and 45 thousand euro ($ 56,4 thousand) fine for denial of the first genocide of the 20th century.
