GUAM peacekeeping force formation inexpedient, Moldovan President saysJuly 8, 2008 - 15:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin believes that establishment of GUAM peacekeeping force is an inexpedient move."The point is that there are no economic constituents in GUAM for the purpose. Besides, we will never join any military, half-military organization or organization which looks like half-military. Last year certain member states thought of peacekeeping force formation. But there is nothing to think about. There is no economic constituent," Voronin said. Consolidation of economic cooperation within GUAM, especially in oil and energy supply will make the organization more efficient, according to him. The Moldavian President believes that energy should be the principal direction to move forward. "Azerbaijan is oil and Ukraine is energy," he said. At the same time Mr. Voronin said Moldova does not consider quitting GUAM. "The Moldovan government has no plans of the kind. On the contrary, we want to make GUAM a functional organization, capable to resolve economic and social problems," he said, Trend Azeri news agency reports.
