Armenian chess players take good start at EIC for women

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian chess player Nelly Aghinyan is among the leaders in the European Individual Championship for women which kicked off in Saint Petersburg on March 8.



Aghinyan has 2 points after two victories. Lilit Mkrtchyan and Lilit Galoyan have 1.5 points each. Siranush Andreasyan and Anna Hayrapetyan have 0.5 point each.



The high interest in the tournament is defined by the fact that the Individual European Women's Championship 2009 is a qualification event for the next World Championship for Women. According to FIDE regulations and the decision of the ECU Board, 14 players will qualify. Besides, the top 20 players will divide a prize fund of 70 000 euro.
